Yusuf Bangura taught international political economy at the Department of Political Science, Ahmadu Bello University in Nigeria during the 1980s and served as Vice President of the Nigerian Political Science Association (NPSA) from 1984-1985. He also worked as a Research Coordinator at the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD) from 1990-2012. After retiring from UNRISD, he taught international political economy at Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, from 2013-2014.
